This is a fantastic spot to come with kids or on a date. Nestled in a gazebo on a boulder in Central Park (closer to midtown), it is an adorable venue to play a casual chess or checkers game gratis while taking in the park below.
The NYC Parks and Recreation Department maintains the facility and there is no cost to play. Few seem to know about it, but you as an avid reader of the Wandering Jew, will be able to add it to your list of great date spots or fun places to entertain your kids. The hours can be limited so check before you go and we encourage you to use google maps or other location enable services to avoid missing it.
This is a fun, free and cool place to impress a date with your knowledge of the city or entertain rambunctious kids.
