Jasmino has perhaps the best meat filled pitas anywhere in Israel. The food is exceptional.
Located on Allenby, it is a hole in the wall with a grill and 4-5 workers at any time, huddled in a small preparation area while the line queues in front of the grill and spills out onto the street.
The iconic counter shop is not kosher though the meat may be. The lamb and veal kebab is simply divine as is the lamb sweetbread. The spicy beef sausage packs some heat and the chicken thighs are savory and filling. Workers fire large peppers and, if you’re smart and can tolerate a little heat, ask for everything “harif”. The amba, tahini, and spices mix together to create an incredible eating experience.
There is virtually no space to eat at the limited countertops. The spot is a favorite of the late night set so if you find yourself there when it’s busy, go outside to one of the benches on Allenby or nearby on Rothschild street and use the helpful dividers, that were seemingly placed to make them less comfortable for sleeping, but far more useful as table tops to those of us eating.
