Sushi Kaito is a discreet omakase only restaurant nestled on West 72nd Street between Broadway and West End Avenues. It has counter seats for about a dozen diners with several slots available throughout the night.

As omakase goes, it is reasonably priced, which is to say it is much more expensive than a typical meal, but well below standard Manhattan prices. The 13 course and 17 course prix fixe are $98 and $135 respectively. Service is impeccable and there is a small sake list to select drinks to accompany dinner.

Kaito and the super busy, lower price point Sushi Yasaka across the street, have the same owner. While both undoubtedly use the same fish monger, Kaito has the choice filets. If you are willing to splurge a little, Kaito is a great option for a fancier date, a nice dinner with a friend, or a pleasant meal by yourself. You’ll be done within an hour and a half of sitting down and leave having had tasty sushi without feeling like you’ve been gouged.
