L&B Spumoni Gardens is famous for its upside down Sicilian pie and was in the news not long ago for a twisted love affair involving the owner’s child. The place offers a nostalgic setting of how quality American life with old school families dine together.
The food is good if not great; the mozzarella in carrozza is tasty (how bad could fried cheese be) and the pastas are well executed if generic. The regular pie is better than the must try Sicilian (if you’ve never been there).
This is a fun place to go with family, particularly little kids on a summer night. You can drive to Gravesend (another location opened in Dumbo recently) and sit outside enjoying Spumoni and a red sauce list staple while being transported to a more wholesome time.
