There are so many sushi places in Manhattan that it can be hard to distinguish them. Yet Omakase Room by Maaser has a niche as a reasonably priced omakase in a great neighborhood. Adjacent to Via Carota, it is in the heart of the West Village with a low key atmosphere.
The sushi chefs are fun and engaging. More importantly, the sushi is excellent. Is this Noz or Masa? No. But it is only a quarter and a tenth of the price, respectively.
Maaser is not a fancy venue, but it would be a good place to go on a semi serious date. Pair it with drinks at one of the great bars nearby and you will have the makings of a terrific outing with a significant other.
