Pop Up Bagels, a Covid era sensation, has taken New York City by storm. The latest outpost is on the Upper West Side.

The chain offers a unique twist, selling bagels and shmears separately, with the idea being that an eater will rip a piece of the bagel off and dunk it in the small container of cream cheese or other offerings.

The bagels are delicious, though given the style of eating, much more challenging to enjoy after they have cooled. Fortunately, the bagels seem to be fresh and hot, allowing for easy tearing. The various cream cheeses are well done, with personal favorite being scallion.

The trout roe is good, but not cheap and the whitefish salad is similar. Note that the nova is actually packaged salmon slices, which seems to be an hommage to a more traditional style of consuming bagels. Pop Up Bagels is well worth the fanfare though it is relatively expensive.
