This is a fun place! The west village used to be cool; now it’s incredibly expensive and the places that are trendy tend to be carefully choreographed (RIP Tortilla Flats).
In other words, Rockmeisha Izakaya is an anachronism. Tucked in a small space on Barrow, it is kitschy, tasty, fun and cheap.
The place is so under the radar that it’s usually not crowded even though it’s tiny.
The food is good if not great, but the ambiance is well worth it. Imagine a more intimate Village Yokocho, admittedly with a far more limited menu. All the sushi is decent and the small plates are good. Go to Rockmeisha for a neat date or to have a bite with friends if you don’t have plans.
