Nestled in Hell’s Kitchen in an otherwise generically comfortable hotel, Rosevale bar offers a speakeasy like feel on the second floor. The first floor of the Civilized hotel features a bar area and kitchen, but the second floor, which you can reach by elevator or spiral staircase, has a quiet area on a terrace lined by high brick walls that were seemingly left from the previous structure.
This is a great place to have drinks with friends or colleagues before or after a Broadway show.
Similarly, the rooftop bar in the hotel is a great place that passes under the radar. It has sweeping views of the city and I recommend checking it out when the weather permits. There is a DJ inside so if you can’t sit outside due to rain, it may be a bit noisy. The drinks are average cost for Manhattan, which is to say expensive.
The staff is pleasant, but the venue is the star. Enjoy Rosevale if you’re in the area and want to show off a hidden jewel.
