Located next to the Carmel Market in the Yemenite corner, Shimon the Soup King fittingly offers delicious, authentic kosher soups with a Yemenite bent.
The restaurant has been featured in numerous travel shows and is well worth a visit for a casual lunch.
Step down into the restaurant (you can also later sit at a table on the street if you prefer, but do look inside first), you will notice 5 or 6 pots on a stove full of the different soups. The hostess and chef and waitress will ask you what you want.
Let her guide you and show you how to properly use the lahoh and saluf she offers. If you can take the spice, try the schug. If you are a squeamish eater, perhaps look at the menu to suggest to her what you don’t want.
