Ushiwakamaru years ago moved from a nondescript location on Houston Street to Chelsea. As it moved north, its prices sadly went up and its quality went down.
The original had a very affordable and high quality omakase; the new incarnation seemed to miss the boat.
You don’t need to go for omakase and, to the restaurant’s credit, the staff are on point. The author only visited the new version once and, considering the general consensus favorable reviews, it might have been an off night. Nonetheless, in a city teeming with great sushi options, there is no need to risk repeating a mistake.
